Symbolic, Maybe.
by Sarah Meyers

I wish upon a shining star,
I wish we could be who we are.
My love's so pure, my love's so true.
Right now I am in love with you.

Or not.
It's satirical, did you get that?
Probably not,
because you're too busy
sitting in your apartment
smirking about the irony of
The Old Man and the Sea
and how all art
is soulless prostitution.

And it's okay. Sometimes,
We'll pretend
that your life is worth more than five-dollar weed
you'll laugh because it's so -
Ironic, isn't it?

It's symbolic.
Or not. Enjoy the rest of your life.

About the author:
Sarah Meyers currently resides in Irvine, CA. She spends a large amount of time smirking about the more pathetic aspects of human nature. This is her first published piece.
