What Happened to Us These Last Couple Years?

Two Poems
by Steve Meador

The Topic

It was the constant conversation
in high school, among boys-
getting some. A few maybe did
but most got none.

College was different, whether it
was gotten was never a topic.
In a land where vaginas dropped
from the sky, like a murder
of crows or a bevy of doves,
it was assumed that you bagged
your fair share as they flapped by.

Careful in Tijuana

Don't drink the water.
We didn't.
Don't eat the tacos
from the street vendors.
We didn't.
Don't wander off the main streets.
We didn't,
but we drank the beer,
a shit-load of it,
and got a twenty-two dollar
taxi ride, for a one mile walk
to the border.

About the author:
Steve Meador has been fortunate to find his work included in several print and electronic journals over the years. His chapbook, A Good Sharp Knife, was released by Pudding House Publications, which will release Pack Your Bags later this year.
