What Happened to Us These Last Couple Years?

Five Poems
by Aryan Kaganof

True Story

I'm sitting at the bar when
In walks this guy with a slit throat
Bleeding like you can't believe
He pulls up the stool next to mine
Orders a double Jameson's
Barman says to him
"Why aren't you dead yet?"
He grins
"I'm not the dying type."

A Touch of Madness, 1 October 2000

Cook the poor properly
Then eat them
Chris says " I love the law
I find much beauty in the law"
Nick wants to bring back cannibalism
"Let the rich and strong eat the poor and weak"
(they already do, Nick)
Thabi and Chris debate semantics
"We are all slaves of the law in order to be free"
"Do you have kids?"
"No, I'm still studying."
Somebody rich says:
"Fuck the poor, they don't have to pay taxes!"

True Story #2

I met a girl who never told a lie
When she opened her mouth to kiss me
She didn't have a tongue

The Final Analysis

My problems with conversation
Are words and
Language

Boy Meets Girl

I tied you up in roses
You said
"Don't muss my hair."

How much of us went wrong?
How much was never there?
