Lumpy Bed by Michael Cuglietta

Listen to a podcast of Michael Cuglietta’s “Lumpy Bed.”

when the end of the world comes
I’ll probably be
in my girlfriend’s
lumpy bed

I need to buy her
a new mattress
my back hurts so bad
all’s I can think of
is the pain

when the end of the world comes
I’ll probably be
listening to
the snoring sounds
my girlfriend makes
when she’s
fast asleep

I press on her nose
to change the tone
I contemplate
pushing her onto
the hardwood floor
but I would never
harm a hair
on her head
I take one last look at
her big blue eyes
before I
turn off the lamp

I give her kisses on her cheeks
when she’s fast asleep
she doesn’t even know it

I stick my hand up her shirt and rub
her soft belly
when she’s fast asleep
she doesn’t even know it

sometimes I even
massage her breasts

I wonder if
I’ll be able to
re-live all of this
after I’m gone

when the world finally does
come to an end
I’ll probably be in
my girlfriend’s
lumpy bed

  • When the world comes to an end,
    she will probably
    still looking
    at me or someone
    else
    like me

    she will buy
    the latest
    in the market
    to bed me
    to make sure
    that I suffer
    the least possible
    at the given time

when the world comes to an end
    she will probably
    be seeing me
    taking my first steps
    and cajole me
    to continue
    to give her joy

    etc
    etc

when the world comes to an end
    and all die
    you
    you and me

    she
    still stays
    on and on

    continuing

    the
    eternal
    mother
