Poetry

LA PALMA, CA by Andrew Hilbert

She’s beautiful
This friend’s mom of mine
She has 150 fake
Plants inside her home

Even the outside
Where regular trees grow
Organically
Plastic, undying trees still
Are scattered around

She’s beautiful
Because she never wants to see
Them die
She only wants Summer and Spring
Her home never faces
The dirges of Autumn and winter

At 73 degrees
Her air conditioning is always set
And a Mexican
Dusts all the dead skin dust off of the plastic
Leaves

Plastic never dies
It’ll outlive her
It’ll outlive the plants it imitates
It’ll outlive life

She is selfless:
Dedicated to a beauty
More infinite than herself
Plastic
